Shaker kitchen

The Shaker style of carpentry was created in the 1700s by the Shaker religious group in New England, USA (so-called because they split away from the Quaker group in Manchester, UK, and were known for shaking in their religious ceremonies). The hallmark of a Shaker kitchen is simplicity, straight clean lines, simple panelled cabinet doors, wooden pegs for hanging implements. It exudes a sense of calm and wholesomeness. Wood features a lot, as do painted finishes, with cream or muted tones being popular.
