Kitchen Worktop

I'm not average height. How do I get my kitchen worktop at the right level for me?

The ideal kitchen worktop should be tailored to your height to allow you to work comfortably. This means ideally, your kitchen worktop should be a few centimetres below your elbow height. At IKEA, we offer stainless steel legs in a variety of lengths for our kitchen cabinets, so your kitchen worktop can sit above them at the right height for you.

I'm partially sighted. Any tips for choosing a kitchen worktop?

Go for kitchen worktops that won't reflect the light to make glare less of a problem. Also, choose a kitchen worktop that's in a contrasting colour to the units and walls, and edge it with a different colour to make it stand out.

I'm tall. How can I make the most of my kitchen?

One way to really maximise the space in your kitchen is to go right to the top with your kitchen wall cabinets. If you're very tall, so much the better - you'll be able to reach them easily. Our kitchen wall units come in a variety of heights, so you can find one to suit.

I'm short. How can I make the most of my kitchen?

If you're very short, use shelves above your kitchen worktop at a reachable height rather than tall cabinets. You can also use wall hung storage at a low height for everything from dish drainers to cutlery stands.

I've got problems with using my hands. Any tips for choosing a kitchen?

If you've don't have a strong grip, go for big, chunky handles rather than little, fiddly ones. We've got a huge variety of handles to choose from.

If you've got arthritis, it's probably a good idea to steer clear of soft closing hinges and drawers that provide less resistance.

I've got problems with stretching. Any tips for choosing kitchen storage?

If you find it difficult to reach into the back of kitchen cabinets to find things, our pull-out fittings and cabinet carousels are the answer. They'll allow you to find what you want with the minimum of effort.
