Finance Your Kitchen

1. Set a kitchen budget

When doing kitchen planning, it's very easy to get carried away with your ideas and find yourself spending far more than you had intended. Set yourself a budget, so you won't get any nasty shocks when it comes to paying for your kitchen.

2. Spend more on the important things

This means working out what's important to you. If, for example, your vision for your new kitchen isn't complete without a granite worktop, splash out on that and save elsewhere. Or, if you're a keen cook, invest in a top quality oven, but choose less expensive white goods.

3. Choose your kitchen contractor wisely

If you need to finance kitchen fitters as well as your new kitchen, make sure you get at least 3 estimates. Once you've decided on your contractor, ask for references and check them, then get a legal contract drawn up for the work involved.

4. Save with kitchen DIY

It's wise to get a trained electrician and plumber to help with fitting your new kitchen, but why not help your kitchen finances by getting stuck into a bit of DIY and saving on labour costs?

5. Consider a home improvement loan for your kitchen

If you have a good credit history, you can ask your bank for a personal loan to help finance your new kitchen. Be aware that the interest rates on these loans can be quite high, and you will end up paying back more than the value of the original loan.

6. Get 12 or 24 months interest free credit at IKEA*

IKEA offers interest free credit on kitchens and installation (using IKEA installation service providers) over selected amounts.
